Carbon Facial in Warrington
A Carbon Facial is a non-invasive laser treatment designed to refresh, exfoliate and improve the overall appearance of the skin.
Sometimes known as a Hollywood Facial, Hollywood Peel or Carbon Laser Peel, the treatment combines a specialist carbon lotion with laser technology to help remove surface impurities and improve the appearance of concerns such as enlarged pores, excess oil, dullness and uneven skin texture.
At SkinFirst in Warrington, Carbon Facials are performed using the UltraLux Pro, which includes advanced carbon facial treatment as one of its dedicated skin-rejuvenation applications.
Every treatment begins with a skin consultation so that Nurse Jenni can assess your concerns and make sure a Carbon Facial is the right option for you.

A Carbon Facial combines a layer of carbon lotion with laser energy.
The carbon is applied to the skin and allowed to settle before the laser is passed across the treatment area.
The carbon helps bind to oil, dead skin cells and impurities on the surface and within the pores. When the laser interacts with the carbon, it creates a gentle exfoliating effect as the carbon is removed from the skin.
The result is a treatment designed to leave the skin feeling cleaner, smoother and fresher, without the downtime associated with more intensive resurfacing treatments.
Despite sometimes being called a “carbon peel”, it isn’t the same as a traditional chemical peel.
What is a Carbon Facial?
The treatment itself is relatively straightforward.
Step One: Skin Preparation
Your skin is cleansed and prepared for treatment.
Step Two: Carbon Application
A thin layer of specialist carbon lotion is applied across the treatment area.
The carbon is given time to settle onto the skin and into the pores.
Step Three: Laser Treatment
The UltraLux Pro laser is passed across the skin.
As the laser interacts with the carbon, the carbon particles are broken down and removed, taking surface oil, debris and dead skin cells with them.
Step Four: Fresh, Clean Skin
Once treatment is complete, the skin is cleansed and appropriate aftercare products can be applied.
The whole process is designed to provide an immediate refreshed feeling with minimal interruption to your day.
Clinical descriptions of carbon laser treatment use a similar process: carbon lotion is applied before treatment with a Q-switched 1064nm laser.

Carbon Facial Treatment FAQs
-
Carbon Facials are generally chosen when the aim is to improve the overall appearance and feel of the skin rather than dramatically change one specific feature.
Dull & Tired-Looking Skin
Best suited to:
Skin that has lost some of its usual freshness and glow. The gentle exfoliating effect of a Carbon Facial can help remove surface build-up and leave the complexion looking brighter and more refreshed.
Enlarged or Congested Pores
Best suited to:
Visible pores, congestion and skin that feels uneven.Research into carbon laser peels has reported improvements in pore appearance and overall skin texture.
Oily Skin
Best suited to:
Skin that produces excess oil or becomes shiny quickly. The treatment may help improve the appearance of oily skin by targeting oil and debris within the pores.
Breakout-Prone Skin
Best suited to:
Selected mild acne and congestion concerns.Carbon laser treatments have been studied for acne lesions and oily, congested skin. However, acne can have many different causes, so we would always assess the skin first rather than automatically recommending a Carbon Facial for every breakout.
Uneven Skin Texture
Best suited to:
Skin that feels rough, congested or less smooth than usual. The exfoliating action of the treatment can help improve the appearance and feel of the skin surface, creating a smoother-looking complexion.
-
Most patients find Carbon Facials relatively comfortable.
During the laser stage, you may notice a gentle warmth, light snapping sensation or hear small clicking sounds as the laser interacts with the carbon.
The treatment is not designed to aggressively remove layers of skin, which is one of the reasons downtime is generally much lower than with more intensive resurfacing procedures.
Your skin may feel warm or look slightly pink immediately afterwards, but this usually settles.
-
One of the reasons Carbon Facials are popular is that the skin can feel noticeably cleaner and smoother soon after treatment.
You may notice:
Fresher-looking skin
A smoother feel
A clearer-looking complexion
Reduced surface oil
Improved appearance of pores
A more even-looking skin texture
Results vary between patients and depend on your starting skin condition and the concerns being treated.
For more persistent concerns such as congestion, enlarged pores or breakouts, Nurse Jenni may recommend a course of treatments rather than relying on one appointment.
-
There isn’t one treatment schedule that suits everyone.
Some patients may choose a Carbon Facial as an occasional skin-refresh treatment, particularly before an event.
Others may benefit from a course where the goal is to improve an ongoing concern such as oily skin, enlarged pores or congestion.
Your treatment plan will depend on:
Your skin type
Your main concerns
Your starting skin condition
How your skin responds
Other treatments or skincare you may already be using
Nurse Jenni will discuss the most appropriate approach during your consultation.
-
Carbon Facials are generally considered a low-downtime treatment.
You may experience some temporary:
Redness
Warmth
Mild sensitivity
Dryness
For most patients, these effects are relatively short-lived.
As with all laser treatments, you will be given personalised aftercare advice, including appropriate guidance around skincare and sun exposure.
-
Although a Carbon Facial is sometimes called a Carbon Peel, it is different from a traditional chemical peel.
Carbon Facial
Uses carbon lotion and laser technology to exfoliate and refresh the skin.
It may be particularly appealing for oily, congested skin, visible pores and patients who want a low-downtime skin refresh.
Chemical Peel
Uses specially selected acids or other peeling agents to create controlled exfoliation within the skin.
Different types and strengths of chemical peel can be selected for concerns such as pigmentation, breakouts, texture and signs of ageing.
Neither treatment is automatically better.
The right choice depends on your skin and what we are trying to improve.
If another treatment is more appropriate than a Carbon Facial, we’ll tell you.

UltraLux Pro gives SkinFirst several different ways to approach skin rejuvenation.
A Carbon Facial focuses more on surface refreshment, congestion, excess oil and texture.
IPL Photo Rejuvenation uses intense pulsed light and may be selected when concerns include visible sun damage, pigmentation, redness or more general signs of skin ageing.
The two treatments aren’t interchangeable, which is why consultation comes first.
Sometimes one treatment will clearly suit your concern better than the other.

At SkinFirst, Carbon Facials are carried out using the UltraLux Pro, an advanced multi-treatment device offering 12 different treatment applications.

-
A Carbon Facial may be worth considering if you are concerned about:
Dull skin
Visible or congested pores
Excess oil
Uneven texture
Mild breakouts
Skin that simply needs refreshing
However, it won’t necessarily be the right treatment if your main concern is deeper pigmentation, significant acne scarring, facial redness or skin laxity.
Other SkinFirst treatments such as IPL, microneedling, chemical peels or more intensive skin treatments may be better suited to those concerns.
This is why we don’t expect you to choose your treatment before you arrive.
Tell us what you’d like to improve. We’ll help you understand the options.
